Abu Dhabi Civil Defence has started compulsory training courses for dealers and distributors of domestic gas cylinders to educate them on safety measures and ensure they comply with rules.
The courses cover all workers and drivers at companies involved in the distribution of gas cylinders in the emirate.
Civil defence Director Colonel Faraj Mubarak said such companies have been asked to provide the department with a list of all their workers and drivers to be included in the courses which he said would cover safe ways for transporting, distributing, storing and carrying gas cylinders.
"The courses are on the instructions of Major General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Undersec-retary of the Ministry of Interior, to ensure all companies will adhere to safety and anti-fire protection measures," he said.
He said the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Licensing Department would grant licences to gas distribution vehicles only after it is approved by the Civil Defence.
Faraj praised a recent decision by the Abu Dhabi municipality to ban the sale of gas cylinders at groceries, saying it has contributed to a decline in fire accidents.
