Road disappears under sewage spill

Gulf News reader calls attention to the sewage spill near Dubai Marina that has been inconveniencing motorists for a long time

For almost a year, there has been a sewage spill at Interchange 5 on Shaikh Zayed Road heading towards Abu Dhabi.

Every morning, I drive this way to work and as I leave Dubai Marina, two lanes turn right to go to Abu Dhabi, and then diverge into a four-lane road.

However, the two lanes suddenly "disappear" as we drive around the bend, because the sewage spills out onto the road. The orange cones which are there to warn us have, in many cases, toppled over and broken as the spill has increased and drivers have hit the cones.

It poses a serious danger to motorists, as they are forced to swerve to avoid the spill, when the road merges from four lanes to two, at the bend.

Similarly, as we leave Shaikh Zayed Road for Dubai Marina and take the exit, the road once again disappears under the sewage on the corner, particularly late in the day.

This is all from the same spill. Drivers brake quickly and swerve to try avoiding it.

Because the spill has gone unattended despite repeated complaints to the concerned authorities, the sewage is now in the car park serving Al Shatha Tower and is a major inconvenience to the employees who park there.

If this matter goes unattended for any length of time, someone is likely to be injured in a car accident on one of the road bends, which is covered with this waste.

The stench is also not very pleasant as we drive past and I am sure it is intolerable for those who park their cars in the parking lot on a daily basis.
