Irish lightning exploded within the confines of The Aviation Club in Dubai on Tuesday night, as the quick-stepping dancers of the Rhythm of the Dance show took to the stage promptly at 8.30pm.

The audience walked away with memories of a flawless performance by the 20 dancers, three musicians and a vocalist, and the efforts of the unsung stage crew.

From costumes to lighting, the production values of the show were nothing short of breathtaking. Onstage, the months of intensive practice was evident in the precision and synchrony of the stage-pounding choreography. The storyline, which traced the history of the Celts, also contained some memorable moments: In particular, the narration of the potato famine.

Although the dancers were the highpoint of the show, the musicians and vocalist also played a major part in casting a spell over even unruly and noisy sections of the crowd. After a particularly haunting offering, even the vocalist was given a standing ovation.

As the two-hour frenzy came to an end, even those who had missed part of the show said they would not have minded driving to Wednesday night's performance at The Club in Abu Dhabi to see it again. The Abu Dhabi show was a sell-out.

The Rhythm of the Dance show was brought to this city by Dubai Duty Free in association with The Talent Brokers and The Aviation Club, and was supported by companies including Dubai FM, Gearhouse, Gulf News and the Ramada Continental Hotel.
