Red Crescent telethon raises Dh25 million for Pakistan

The Red Crescent Authority telethon raised a total of 25 million dirhams in donations for Pakistan flood relief on its first day

Abu Dhabi: The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) telethon raised a total of 25 million dirhams in donations on its first day (Wednesday).

The campaign, under the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, saw the participation of various channels and stations across the UAE, such as Al Emarat, Ajman, Noor Dubai, Sharjah 2, Fujeirah’s Dunia, Ras Al Khaimah TV and Al Waha.

The telethon will last for another two days and aims at helping the Pakistani people affected by the floods, which is estimated to be around 23 million.

A meeting was conducted on Tuesday by the National Media Council (NMC) to discuss a unified procedure and mechanism for carrying out the telethon. The meeting was attended by TV channel directors.

Donations will be received by RCA branches across the country, the authority’s call centres, and some commercial centres in the country and through SMS.

You can call the toll free number 8000 733 between 4 pm to 6 pm and between 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm to donate to the Pakistan flood relief fund.
