Red Crescent relief supplies to leave for Jordan
A Red Crescent Society aircraft carrying medical equipment for Palestinians will leave for Jordan tomorrow, partly paid for by a Dh100,000 donation from a local company.
Red Crescent Society officials said yesterday this second flight will carry medical equipment for the UAE Jordanian hospital in Ramallah.
Khalifa Nasser Al Suwedi, Chairman of the board, said the hospital is a support initiative by both the UAE and the Jordanian government to the injured in Palestine.
"It is a mobile hospital which provides complete medication to the Palestinians who are injured during the clashes with the Israelis," he said.
The Abu Dhabi Medical Devices Co donated Dh100,000 towards the Palestinian cause. The donation was made in the form of medical material such as syringes and medicines.
Al Suwedi thanked the company and said he would like to see more companies taking the same active role.
A similar flight was due to arrive at Gaza airport yesterday with medical aid. It was the second relief flight from the UAE.
The plane was carrying medicines and medical equipment to be used to treat wounded people in Palestinian hospitals and medical centres.
A Red Crescent team travelled with the aircraft to help with the distribution. The team also plans to buy an ambulance for the Gaza-based Al Salah Charity Association.
The team will study proposals for a Dh6.27 million Red Crescent Society hospital in Gaza and for financing schemes to provide income to pay for the rehabilitation of disabled children.
Ban Nelson, regional representative for primary rescue operations and health in the International Federation in Jordan, praised the UAE Red Crescent Society's role in helping Palestinian victims.
People wishing to make donations to the Red Crescent Society can do so at the society's offices or through the society's bank accounts at the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, account number 20000417 or the Dubai Islamic Bank, account number 03520534675401.
