Dubai: An Emirati, S.A.M.S, accused of raping a Filipino girl after posing as a criminal investigator was sentenced to ten years in prison.

The defendant, approached in his vehicle according to the victim's testimony, and posed as a criminal investigator. “He showed me an ID card, but I couldn't see it clearly as he was still in his driver's seat and I was on the road,'' she told presiding Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir.

The 26-year-old victim identified as E.A., said that he pulled her by her hair and shoved her face towards his private parts, forcing her to perform oral sex, before raping her.

She was walking outside her working place in Lulu Hyper Market where she works as cashier, when the incident happened.

Following the incident, she informed her manager who then reported the incident to the police. Five days after she filed the complaint, the defendant's wife visited her at her work place and tried to persuade her into dropping charges, “She told me if its money you want we will give you,'' E.A. informed the court.

Woman sentenced to life for selling marijuana

Dubai A woman from Uganda was sentenced to life in prison after she was found guilty of possessing, consuming and selling marijuana.

Court records revealed that the 28-year-old woman S.N. was arrested with bags of marijuana cigarettes rolled and ready for sale after the police raided her place on receiving a tip-off about a woman using her residence for selling and consuming drugs.

The woman revealed that she sold each cigarette for Dh30, claiming that she stole the banned substance from her roommate.



Man sentenced in absentia for embezzling Dh14 million



Dubai A 55-year-old Frenchman charged with making Dh14,122,492 in unlawful commissions during his employment at Aximos Company, a subsidiary of Dubai World, was sentenced in absentia by Dubai Criminal Court today to five years in jail and to pay back the entire amount.

The suspect has not yet been arrested by authorities.

The Frenchman allegedly used the company's assets to order and pay for purchases from a company based in the United States which later was found to be his own.

According to prosecution records, the suspect who was director of Aximos, was supposed to deliver two submarines, Discovery and Stain Gray, to Dubai World, but failed to do so.

Hussain A.R, Finance Manager at Palm Jumeirah testified in a previous hearing that the suspect who was hired in 2004, received around Dh2 million related to submarines costs. He also settled some personal payments from the company's account such as paying his lawyer in the US and shipping two vehicles to the country.

Frenchman gets five years

A court today has sentenced in absentia a Frenchman to five years and ordered him to pay Dh14 million.

The 55-year-old French was charged with pocketing illegal commissions during his employment with a Dubai-based company.

Court records show he allegedly used the company's assets to order and pay for purchases from a company based in the US which later was found to be his own.

According to prosecution records, the suspect was supposed to deliver two recreational submarines to Dubai World but failed to do so.

H.A.R., Financial Manager at Palm Jumeirah, testified in a previous hearing that the suspect, hired in 2004, received around Dh2 million for the cost of the submarines. Court records also show that settled made personal payments from the company's account like paying his lawyer in the US and shipping two vehicles to the country.

Emirati gets 10 years for rape

A UAE national was given 10 years in prison today after he was convicted of raping a Filipina cashier in Dubai.

E.A., 26, said she was walking outside her office in Lulu Hypermarket when S.A.S. drove right up to her, pretending to be a police investigator.

“He showed me an ID (card) but I couldn't see it clearly as he was still in his driver's seat and I was on the road,'' she told presiding Judge Mounir Fahmi.

She added that he pulled her hair, pushed her head towards his private parts and forced her to perform oral sex on him before raping her.

“I begged him to let me go but he didn't,'' the victim earlier testified.

E.A. told her manager about the incident and then reported her ordeal to authorities.

The defendant's wife reportedly showed up at E.A.'s workplace five days later and tried to talk her into dropping charges.

“She told me if it's money you want, we will give you.''

She later dropped her right in the case saying that she was afraid that if she didn't, it might cause her trouble.

Woman sentenced to life for dope

A woman from Uganda was sentenced to life in prison after she was found guilty of possessing, consuming and selling marijuana.

Court records stated that the 28-year-old woman, identified as S.N., was arrested with bags of marijuana cigarettes after the police received a tip off about a woman using her residence for selling and consuming drugs.

She said that she sold a cigarette for Dh30. She earlier claimed she stole the banned substance from her roommate.
