Dubai: All permits for Ramadan tents this year have been cancelled in line with instructions to contain the coronavirus outbreak, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) announced on Tuesday.
The authority said it is strictly forbidden to bring meals for ending the daily fast to the courtyards of mosques, in order to prevent gatherings. Those seeking to distribute meals can approach the charities and institutions approved and licensed by IACAD.
Ahmad Darwish Al Muhairi, Executive Director, Charitable Sector, IACAD, stressed the importance of these precautionary steps in supporting national efforts against COVID-19, indicating that the department places health and safety among its top priorities. He noted that the latest directive is in line with coordination between various government agencies, taking into account all necessary measures to provide a safe environment.
Mohammad Musabeh Dahi, Director, Charitable Institutions Department, IACAD, said IACAD is continuing to promote charitable work among the various segments of society. The ‘Meals of Hope’ digital initiative is one such programme that will help feed the needy while taking precautionary measures adopted by the country, he added.
