Cairo: Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Eisa Al Khalifa has pardoned 105 inmates convicted in different cases on the occasion of the kingdom’s National Day.

The pardoned inmates have served parts of their jail terms, Bahrain’s news agency BNA reported.

The amnesty and release of those prisoners comes to commemorate the anniversary of establishing modern Bahrain at the hands of Ahmed Al Fatah in 1783 and King Hamad’s accession to power, the agency added.

Bahrain annually celebrates its National Day on December 16. This year, government ministries and public institutions are closed Thursday and Friday to mark the occasion. Schools across the kingdom are draped in the white and red, the colours of the Bahraini flag.

A fireworks show was staged on Thursday evening in the Bahrain International Circuit on the occasion.
