Abu Dhabi: Staff from government departments are taking part in sports contests during Ramadan in Abu Dhabi to promote health and fitness. The second edition of Abu Dhabi Government Games is underway during Ramadan until March 28 at Abu Dhabi Sports Hub, Al Forsan Club and Hudayriyat Island.

Organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and supported by the Department of Government Support, the event features participation of dozens of Abu Dhabi government entities. The tournament celebrates Ramadan with the aim of raising employees’ morale, interpersonal relations, and professional and personal development. The competitions also aim to leave a positive impact on their health, within an atmosphere that celebrates the spirit of teamwork.

The competitions include 11 games such as football, archery, padel, fitness, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, chess, badminton, running, and cycling. Also, a women’s cycling race will be held on March 26 at Yas Marina Circuit.

Participating teams from government agencies compete daily from 9pm to 2am.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the first edition had witnessed the participation of more than 1,600 employees from 47 government agencies.

“We are very happy with the great demand from all government agencies to participate in the second edition of the tournament, with the goals of adopting a healthy lifestyle at all physical, mental and social levels, in addition to the fact that the tournament has become a forum that provides the opportunity for employees to participate side by side with their colleagues in many competitions within a distinctive social atmosphere that enhances their quality of life index,” he added.
