Ras Al Khaimah: RAK Hospital is offering free consultation and mammograms by a specialist plastic surgeon to raise awareness about cancer prevention.

Under the motto “Turning the UAE Pink” the campaign comes in partnership with RAK hospital and the Pink Caravan to spread awareness, education and prevention of breast cancer.

The event will take place at the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of RAK hospital on October 16, 23 and 30 and will include a free consultation, screenings, and mammography along with various workshops and public awareness talks targeted towards education and early detection of breast cancer.

Dr Punam Bijlani, Clinical Head of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive surgeries at RAK Hospital stressed the importance of screening for women aged 40 and above.

She said: “Breast cancer affects one in eight women during their lives and though most cases occur in women aged 40 and above but certain women with high-risk characteristics may develop it at a younger age.

“With our campaign we aim to encourage women from across the community to take-up screening including breast self-examination, clinical breast examination and mammograms. Raising awareness, tackling stigma, and spreading education about the disease will encourage early detection therefore affecting survival and quality of life.”
