Rai hits unbeaten 93 in TIHS nine-wicket win
Ramveer Rai of The Indian High School (TIHS) cracked an unbeaten 93 to overhaul Westminster's challenging total of 175 for eight in 25 overs and win by nine wickets in the Al Rawabi inter-school cricket tournament, organised by the Dubai Cricket Council at the DCC grounds yesterday.
The architect of Westminster's total was Sharan Kumar, who hit an unbeaten 64 (55b, 8x4). Both Rai and Sharan were stars of the UAE team in the just concluded Asia Cup under-15 cricket tournament.
Rai and Ravi Krishnan put on 120 runs for the first wicket. Rai's 93 came off 79 balls with 10 boundaries, while Ravi hit a quick 49 (35 b, 4x4). Junaid Liyakat remained unbeaten with 20 to ensure Indian High School's nine-wicket win.
Riaz Khaliq of Omar bin Khattab put up a splendid allround performance to beat St Mary's Catholic School by 84 runs. Khaliq hit 42 and picked 5 for 31 with his leftarm spin.
In another match, Adnan hit an unbeaten 69 (56b, 12x4) in Our Own English High School's 69-run win over Pakistan Education Academy. Vivek Regi Thomas put his school on the path to victory with a good knock of 41 off 33 balls and help his team make 216 for 7 in 25 overs.
Pakistan Education Academy chased well through Umer Shah ( 27) and Mubashir Khan (24n.o) but fell short of the target.
Sheikh Rashid Pakistan School beat Emirates English Speaking School by 56 runs. Junaid Zulfiqar top scored with a breezy 48 (22 b, 6x4) to help his team score 232 in 23.3 overs. English Speaking school could manage only 176 for seven.
