Dubai : Queries such as "What is life" and "What is love" made it to the fastest rising top queries from the UAE according to a year-report compiled from Google searches.

The results which offer a mirror on the year's important happenings, trends and events based on searches conducted in the UAE, are part of Google's annual Zeitgeist (German for "the spirit of the times").

The fastest rising list is distinct from top searches in that it gives an idea of emerging trends. Joanne Kubba, Google Global Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Middle East and North Africa (Mena) said: "The ‘most popular' terms, which feature website names and common terms like "weather" are not a good indication of search trends, while, ‘fastest rising' terms are topics that have gained interest within the last twelve months and hence better identify what people were curious about in 2009 relative to 2008.

"These queries are the searches that have seen the largest increase in volume over a specified amount of time."

Social networking sites such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, as well as e-mail sites such as Gmail and Yahoo continued to top the popular lists.

Among news sites, Gulf News ranked number one, while Emirates airline continued to top the list of airlines searched.

Interestingly there is also a list of fastest rising queries on restaurants in the country, with Al Ibrahimi topping the list.
