Britons in Dubai have just over one month to renew their passports in the UAE, before the service is outsourced to Europe
Dubai: Britons in Dubai have just over one month to renew their passports in the UAE, before the service is outsourced to Europe.
From August 1, all passport applications and renewals will be done at the British Passport Processing Centre (PPC) in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Applicants and passport holders will need to post their passports and applications to the centre: this will add approximately Dh500 to the cost of renewing or applying for a British passport.
As Emirates Post does not send passports through their postal service, other logistics services will need to be used.
Until the August 1 deadline, applications will still be accepted at the British Embassies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
A careline has been set up for passport queries, based in London, UK. The phone calls are charged at a rate of Dh3.7 per minute plus VAT on: +44 208 082 4736. The line is open Monday to Friday, 9am-6pm (UAE time) answering questions about the passport application process, documents required and the progress of application once it is received in Dusseldorf. This is an English-speaking service only.
All applications must include a completed application form, two identical photographs, supporting documents and a credit card authorisation slip.
If you are applying to renew your passport you must also include your old passport. The old passport will be cancelled (leaving any visa or residency stamps intact) and returned along with your new passport.
