Dubai: Authorities in India have launched a thorough investigation to find out how the body of a Dubai Kindergarten Starters student, Mohammad Zubair, who died in the Mangalore air crash was mistakenly claimed and cremated by another family, XPRESS can reveal.

K.H. Muniyappa, the special emissary of the Indian Prime Minister to oversee relief operations, said he has directed city police chief S.K. Singh to inquire into the incident.

Earlier, authorities admitted that a family had mistakenly claimed the body of Zubair, 4, in the confusion that prevailed at the mortuary following the May 22 crash. Zubair's parents and a younger sister also died in the accident which claimed 158 lives.
