Abu Dhabi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, performed the funeral prayers for Shaikh Ahmad Bin Hamed Al Hamed, who passed away on Wednesday.

Shaikh Tahnoun Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region, Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, joined him at the prayers offered at the Sultan Bin Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

A number of Shaikhs, ministers, senior officials and a large gathering of mourners also attended the funeral prayers.

Shaikh Ahmad, who died at 83 years of age, served in many positions prior to the establishment of the UAE, such as heading the departments of employers and employees, and employee and tourism affairs in Abu Dhabi.

He also served as Minister of Information in the first appointment of the Cabinet following the establishment of the UAE in 1971. He was later appointed as Minister of Information and Tourism on the Cabinet’s second term in March 23, 1973, and as Minister of Information and Culture in the Cabinet’s third term in 1977, and occupied the same position in the Cabinet’s fourth term in July 1, 1979.

The Ministry of Presidential Affairs has mourned the death of Shaikh Ahmad Bin Hamid Al Hamid who died on Wednesday.

The ministry extends its condolences to the family of the deceased and pray to Allah Almighty to rest his sole in peace and grant his family the patience and solace to bear the loss.
