Police to patrol Ajman beach
Police will patrol stretches of the beach to ensure that people don't venture into the prohibited area. The current there is strong, said a senior official yesterday.
Lt Col Saleh Saeed Al Matroushi, director of Ajman Civil Defence, said the move is being taken to ensure public safety. He said: "These areas are dangerous and pose a major threat to the public. Many people have drowned during summer in previous years."
Civil Defence also plans to deploy more lifeguards near the six watchtowers, which will be operational in April. He said the Ajman beach has been attracting a considerable number of people and tourists after development work was completed 18 months ago.
The beach is exposed to the waters of the Arabian Gulf and hence there are strong currents in some stretches. This area will also be declared as off limits to the public because the current is strong.
Police will patrol prohibited areas and signboards will be posted there. Certain areas will be demarcated for swimmers.
A 24-hour marine rescue team has already been set up and an ambulance stationed at the Al Remeilah Fire Station.
The team will patrol the beach.
