Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi police traffic and patrol department will organise a traffic safety campaign for pupils which will start at the beginning of September simultaneously with the new academic year.

The campaign is endorsed by the Secretariat General of the GCC.

The campaign will convey the theme "safety of schoolchildren."

During the campaign, traffic patrols will be deployed at schools, kindergartens, traffic junctions and other strategic places.

The aim is to assist the children and to ensure their safety, create awareness about traffic regulations and educate schoolbus drivers about the importance of adhering to traffic rules.

The campaign will run until November 30 covering Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the western region.

Lieutenant Colonel Khamis Ishaq Mohammad, deputy director of the traffic and patrol department, held a meeting with the heads of traffic and patrol sections in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

He said that his department is keen to launch traffic awareness initiatives to educate pupils, their parents, bus drivers, supervisors and the public about ensuring the safety of children.

The aim is to assist the children and to ensure their safety, create awareness about road rules and educate school bus drivers about adhering to traffic rules.
