Shoppers to Dubai's latest state-of-the-art mall have received the signal to chat while they shop.

Bosses from the Mall of the Emirates and Etisalat have been working behind the scenes to improve the mobile telephone signal around the building, following complaints from disappointed shoppers.

The problems became apparent minutes after the giant shopping complex, at interchange four, opened its doors on September 28.

Shoppers tried desperately to call family and friends to inform them the outlets were open, to no avail.

At the time, a spokesman for Etisalat, the communications giant, said it was aware of the problem and was battling to rectify the situation as soon as possible.

Jim Badour, vice president, Mall of the Emirates, said: "We are pleased to inform our customers that we have completed the upgrade of the mobile phone coverage in the Mall of the Emirates and that service is now available in all areas of the mall.

"We appreciate the cooperation of everyone involved, particularly our customers who brought the issue to our attention.

"Through the cooperation of Etisalat and MAF/Dalkia we were able to correct this issue in a very short time. Their technicians worked round the clock to improve the coverage.

"The hard work is greatly appreciated and demonstrates our goal of establishing the Mall of the Emirates as the premier shopping and leisure resort in the region."
