Pedestrians at risk on Abu Hail road
Traffic lights have not been working for the past four months
I am a resident of Abu Hail Road in the East Hor Al Anz area of Dubai. For the past four months, the pedestrian crossing lights have not been functional in the six-lane junction.
Due to this, pedestrians — including families with children — are crossing the roads with great confusion and fear.
Previously, one pedestrian bridge had been built, but it has been removed by the relevant authorities since, as space was required for road works.
Currently, there is no pedestrian bridge in the area. This is a dangerous crossing for pedestrians and some people have even had near-misses or met with accidents when they have tried to cross the road.
On behalf of the public and for their safety, I request the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to take the initiative to construct new pedestrian bridges in order to solve the problem at the earliest and save lives.
In the meantime, I think the RTA should look into arranging appropriate pedestrian crossings with functional traffic signals.
