Bangladeshi band stages successful shows

The Bangladeshi musical band, Dream Boys, a brainchild of Nazrul Islam, came into being in June, 1999. Since then, the Abu Dhabi-based band has to its credit as many as a dozen successful stage performances at various places in the capital and Dubai.

These include ones organised by the Corniche hospital social club and the Bangladesh Embassy on occasions such as the UAE national day, new year and friendly get-togethers. The band has also performed at the Asian Night Music concert.

The Dream Boys, inspired by the appreciation they have received and their rapid popularity among audiences, are all set to present their debut album by the end of this year. Dedicated to the Bangladeshi community in the UAE, it features Bengali folk songs and other songs as well. The members have been working on the album for the last six months.

Nazrul Islam leads the band consisting of five young men, brought together by their passion for music. The band has three vocalists – Nazrul, Belal and Absur. Nazrul also plays lead guitar. Belal plays the keyboard. Khucon is in charge of the drums and Aslam is the base guitarist.

The band is well-equipped having drums, lead and base guitars, keyboard and a mini sound system. Since the band does not accept any payment for stage performances, the finance needed to buy the instruments, organise shows and to release the first album, was shared by the band members. Everyday, after working, the boys meet to practise for their album, playing Bangla, Hindi and English songs.

In 1997, when Nazrul came to Abu Dhabi, he brought with him a rich experience in the music industry back in Bangladesh. Soon, he began his musical career in the UAE with one of the bands in Abu Dhabi. Later he dreamt of his own band.

To realise that, it took him three years of painstaking effort searching for dedicated young men and training them to a professional level.

Nazrul and his team are enthusiastic about expanding their band by welcoming talented young musicians and by adding in more instruments such as speakers and sound mixers. The band is also on a look out for a female lead singer.

In whatever spare time they get after their job and practice sessions, each one of them listens to the latest contemporary music. The Dream Boys consider themselves lucky so far, enjoying their performances and entertaining their audience.

They are clear about what they want from their audience, especially from the expatriate Bangladeshi community in the UAE – support and encouragement.
