DUBAI Tenants don’t have to submit income proof to landlords, a senior Real Estate Regulatory Agency (Rera) official has told XPRESS.

“Passport copy, UAE residency and Emirates ID is all that’s needed. No salary certificates are required,” said Mohammad Khalifa Bin Hammad, senior manager, Real Estate Relations Management, Rera.

A news report recently claimed tenants in Dubai would be required to provide an income statement (in addition to the customary documents) before leasing a unit in the emirate.

Realty agents also told XPRESS that there was no such regulation. “It is not a must for tenants to provide a salary certificate. Sometimes landlords ask for it just before leasing their unit for added security. But there is no such rule,” said Kenny Paul, Director, Premier Habitat.

Mohanad Alwadiya, Managing Director, Harbor Real Estate, agreed. “The salary certificate is not mandatory, but at the same time there is no law preventing landlords from asking for any additional verification.”
