National Human Resources (NHR), a Dubai-based institute which prepares UAE nationals for jobs, has opened a new training centre in the capital to enable more young nationals to be an active part of the nation's work force.

The centre, located in the heart of Abu Dhabi, is one of the most advanced institutes in the UAE for training and business solutions to support the country's emiratisation policy, said Mohammed Mubarak, Chairman of NHR.

NHR, which was established in Dubai in 1997 and its services expanded to Abu Dhabi in 1999, is managed by UAE nationals and has successfully helped nationals in job placement.

The new facility includes a large training centre, computer labs, multimedia support, a cafeteria, a reference library and a lounge.

"We established the centre to enhance the candidates' business skills and train them in computers, administrative essentials, English language and other important fields," he said.

Mubarak said the institution organised in Dubai the first job fair exclusively for nationals in 1998. A large number of government departments, banks and companies from the private sector took part.

The second job fair was organised in 1999, in association with MashreqBank, and introduced the banking sector and its potential to national candidates. It also organised the national job fair in 2000.

Mubarak claimed that the NHR's database includes particulars of more than 5,000 candidates who are qualified to meet the requirements of different industries in the government and private sectors. "These candidates are able and confident to take up suitable assignments."

He noted that NHR has also paved the way for nationals to take full advantage of international training programmes such as the accredited Business and Technology Educational Council certification from Edexcel UK.

This programme, which was a resounding success in Bahrain and Oman, has proved equally effective in the UAE, he said.

He noted that his goal was to open doors for UAE nationals to get the right training and prepare for employment in today's competitive market. "That's why we entered into an agreement with Microsoft, making NHR an accredited training centre for Microsoft Office applications."

NHR also offers human resource consultancy services to companies and institutions looking for national employees.

The services offered by NHR include policy development and formulation, recruitment and selection services, candidate assessment, compensation analysis and performance appraisal management systems to employee benefits and rewards management, human resource auditing, job evaluation, manpower planning and career development.
