Dubai Municipality is planning to build new interchanges at Bur Dubai as part of the expansion of the Al Garhoud Bridge.

Nasser Ahmed Saeed, Director of the Roads Department, said changes will be made to all interchanges on Al Ittihad Road, such as the Al Qiyadah Interchange and Al Nahda Interchange.

The project design is ready and it will take into consideration traffic growth projections for the next 15 years. The tender for the project is expected to be floated next May.

Dubai Municipality is also studying the project to expand Al Garhoud Bridge to include a six-lane approach to help reduce traffic congestion. He said access to the Dubai Festival City will be made possible from the Al Garhoud interchange. There are also plans to link the Festival City to Al Awir Road.

The project will improve road safety and traffic will move faster in and out of Dubai, he said.
It will also help encourage the use of public transport.
