Motorists complain of traffic jams
With the many shopping festivals going on during Ramadan, motorists complain that the traffic has become unbearable at night.
Brigadier Abdul Rahaman Mohammed Rafi, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, told Gulf News they are doing their best to try to solve the traffic jams.
"Dubai's is a commercial hub. Many of the vehicles on the Dubai roads are also from the other emirates or from neighbouring countries," he said.
He pointed out that extra traffic police and patrolling vehicles are deployed during the rush hour.
"We always have extra traffic policemen patrolling the crowded areas. We take extra care to deploy them at places where we have a larger concentration of people like malls," he said.
Brig. Rafi blamed some motorists for the chaos on the roads. He warned motorists who illegally park their vehicles on the roads and block the passage.
"Be sure that you will be fined if you park your vehicle in such a position," he cautioned. "This is a big problem especially in the crowded souq areas, which have very narrow lanes."
Brig. Rafi advised motorists to park their vehicles a distance away and walk to their destinations.
