ICDL accreditation workshop for teachers

Last year, Dubai Men's College initiated the ICDL initiative to help teachers obtain certification in their computer skills. With the support of Unesco Cairo office, DMC established the first accredited ICDL test centre in the Gulf and Jonathan Wilde became its accredited manager.

To help its staff achieve the ICDL, DMC developed collaborative training that certifies a mesh of instructors, consequently they train other teachers in the programme. In one year, 70 staff and teachers of Dubai Men's participated in the programme. This success prompted the other colleges to initiate similar activities.

In the spirit of promoting and spreading this programme across HCT and consequently throughout the UAE, Dubai Men's and Unesco Cairo office conducted an accreditation workshop to help other institutions in UAE to obtain accreditation.

The three-day workshop saw Unesco representative Dr Amr Azzouz pay a visit to the campus of the six out of 10 institutions that enlisted for accreditation. The aim of the visit was to inspect the testing facilities that will encompass the testing centre.

Recently, a series of intensive workshops were conducted by which 18 individuals representing the 10 sites passed through the whole process of testing and managing the ICDL programme.

They sat, and successfully passed, the seven ICDL modules. At the end of the workshop, Dr Azzouz gave a detailed presentation about the ICDL operation and the expectation of each accredited test centre.

The participants who attended the workshop and the institutes they represent were:

Academic Services: Anne Wafaa and Monique Hassan.
Abu Dhabi Men's College: Adil Al Hussaini and Mokhtar Saeed.
Abu Dhabi Women's College: Jane O'Brien and Ton Mason
Al Ain Women's College: Robert Bernard.
Ras Al Khaimah Men's College: Evan Jones and Marlin Ashmead.
Ras Al Khaimah Women's College: Lakmee Senadheera.
Fujairah Women's College: Anthony Wethereld and Kent Farrell.
Sharjah Women's College: Aziz Mutwalli and Hind Almualla.
Sharjah Men's College: Hans Horlings and Rami Idris.
University of Sharjah: Saad Harous and Ashraf Elnagar
The workshop was organised by Olga Lewis. Facilitation was conducted by Olga Lewis, Aidan Thorne, Jonathan Wilde and Anas El Jamal. UCO workshop supervision and site inspection was undertaken by Dr Amr Azzouz.
