Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received former US president Bill Clinton, the special United Nations envoy in Haiti, yesterday at the Burj Al Arab.

A number of humanitarian and educational issues were discussed during the meeting, especially those locations hit by natural disasters and the loss of life and the destruction of infrastructure such as schools, universities and health centres.

Assistance

Shaikh Mohammad and his guest also talked about the earthquake which left a devastating imprint on Haiti and the international efforts for assisting the crisis-stricken country.

They also talked about the role of the UN and humanitarian establishments in the rebuilding process.

Clinton lauded the role of UAE humanitarian foundations and establishments, and their keenness on extending bridges of support and backing to all crisis-stricken nations.

Rehabilitation

He also indicated the great work done by (Dubai Cares), the Red Crescent Authority and other charities in the country to re-build and rehabilitate schools in Haiti, as well as Dubai Cares offering education to more than 200,000 children on the devastated island.

The meeting was also attended by Reem Al Hashimi, Minister of State, Ahmad Abdullah Al Shaikh, Director General of the Dubai Media Office and a number of senior officials.
