Dubai: Dr Hanif Hassan, UAE Minister of Education, has unveiled a series of partnership initiatives aimed at transformation the country's educational landscape into a student-centric learning environment.

As part of the plan, an entrepreneurship initiative in conjunction with the Young Achievers Injaz programme, which is expected to cater to 50,000 students by 2013, will be launched. Other planned moves include the launch of a gifted student scheme.

The minister made the statement at the official opening of the Gulf Education Forum at the Madinat Arena, Dubai.

The forum will run till January 24 and consists of a panel of experts from the UK, Germany, US, Jordan, Canada, India and Scandinavia.

"It is very timely for such a conference to take place in the UAE as we are in the midst of bringing about major changes in our education system. As we look towards the future, we know that we must develop learners who are prepared to take on the challenges of a dynamic environment. Our students must be thinkers who are able to assess problems armed with the skills to implement and monitor actions," said Dr Hassan.
