Metito completes work on Das Island sewage plant
Metito Overseas Ltd has completed work on a Dh23 million contract to design, supply and install a state-of-art sewage treatment works to serve a population of over 6,000 people living on Das island near Abu Dhabi.
The project has been commissioned and handed over by Metito-Granite consortium to the Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Co (Adma-Opco), who are responsible for the overall project.
Following the successful handing over, Metito has started the five-year operation and maintenance (O & M) contract with Adma-Opco, of the complete sewage collection and treatment systems on Das Island.
The Sharjah-based company completed the two-year contract on schedule. The scope of work on the project included the design and building of the mechanical and electrical components of the sewage treatment plant, pumping stations and a SCADA monitoring system for the project.
The project is the latest in a series of major infrastructure projects that Metito has undertaken in Abu Dhabi on behalf of the government and industrial sector.
"In a tough, hazardous working environment such as Das Island, we are proud to once again use our infrastructure expertise in waste water systems to help a major development in Abu Dhabi. We were also determined to ensure that the systems we introduced were environment-friendly and designed to suit the location and ensure that treated effluent will be used for irrigation and plantation on the island," said Omar Al Zoubi, branch manager, Metito, Abu Dhabi.
The sewage treatment works installed can handle a peak flow up to 260 square metres per hour to cater for the estimated 6,000 people working on the island.
The final element of the project was creating a SCADA system, a special software package that can be used for the monitoring at Das Island sewage treatment plant and sewage lift stations.
