Malayalam actress in suicide bid

Well-known television serial actress Beena Antony was taken to a hospital early yesterday after she took an overdose of sleeping pills in an apparent suicide attempt.

Beena's family members denied speculation that she had tried to end her life.

She felt giddy when she was getting ready to go for shooting of the TV serial Vasundhara Medicals, and she was taken to hospital, her mother said.

Hospital sources said she could be moved from the intensive care unit and discharged soon.

Sources said she had consumed 10 sleeping pills. In recent interviews, Beena had said that she was hurt by rumours about her in the press.
