Magic de Piboul returns to Dubai again to defend his crown. He will be also aiming to emulate Alanudd as the only horse, Purebred Arabian or thoroughbred, to successfully defend a title on Dubai World Cup day. There is an interesting story behind his trainer Jean-Pierre Totain, on how he developed a liking for horses.

Jean-Pierre had orphaned as a child and his love for horses began while watching the horses from a stable next to the orphanage. When he grew up, Jean-Pierre went to a apprentice school at Mont de Marsan in South-West France and became a jockey.

Due to weight problems he could not ride for long and so decided to train horses and got his license in December 1986. Todate, he has trained over 2000 winners. He currently has 100 horses at his training yard in Pau in South West France.

John Sadler, the trainer of Royal Tryst is impressed with the Dubai World Cup. Despite the prize money for horse racing being very impressive in his county, Australia, Sadler enjoys being here.

He even said that after retuning home, he would ask the people to come over here and have a look at the racing. Sadler is a trainer with tremendous experience. He was first licensed as a trainer in Australia in 1978. He began from Colac in Western Victoria, where he was the leading trainer from 1984 to 1986. In 1986, he moved to Melbourne before moving to UAE in 2000.

Sadler has displayed his ability as an outstanding trainer with horses like Jolly Old Mac, Lady Jakeo, Kenvain and Jakpil etc. Sadler is hopeful that Tryst will put up a good show. He candidly admitted that his chances would be a 100-1. He would be even happy if he finished fourth or fifth during the World Cup.

Demophilos will make his presence during the $2 million Dubai Sheema Classic. Second in last year's Rothmans Royal St Leger just behind Milan at Doncaster, Demophilos has raced eight times in his career and won once and finished in the frame five times.

Trainer Amanda J Perrett, who is the daughter of dual British champion trainer Guy Harwood feels Demophilos has wintered well and is in good form. Amanda is married to Mark Perrett, a former jockey. She got her license to train at Coombelands Racing Stables in Pulborough, West Sussex from her father.

Bonapaw, the comprehensive winner of his two most recent starts at Fair Grounds, is a strong contender for the Dubai Golden Shaheen crown. Trainer Howard Alonzo describes Bonapaw as the best horse he has trained. Bonpaw has proved to be an extremely consistent sprinter ever since his first campaign as a two year old.

In 200, he ran on 11 occasions for five wins and four placings and last year he extended his good form. Purchased for just $6.500 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 1997, Bonapaw from his 29 starts, has won 14 and been placed on another eight occasions.

Peeping Tom is a splendid performer. This five-year-old son of Eagle Eyed has reached Dubai after having won an allowance race at Aqueduct last February.

Peeping Tom has run 24 times for nine wins and seven placings. His best performances has been at Aqueduct, winning six and being placed three times. His trainer Patrick Reynolds' first stakes winner was Peeping Tom, when he won the Grade II General George Handicap at Laurel.
