The Philippines' Catholic Church, taking a cue from the government, has chosen a popular TV-movie personality with a wholesome image to lead celebrations at a family day.

Not only was Jolina Magdangal chosen by President Gloria Arroyo to reach out to the youth by co-hosting the president's weekly TV programme, she was also handpicked by the Archdiocese of Manila to head the Filipino delegation in the 'World Day of Families' to be held here next year.

The 23-year-old Magdangal, who said she has been hoping that 2002 will be the year for her to find true love since she has sacrificed her whole teenage life for her career, was the popular choice by youth members in the 250 parishes of the archdiocese.

Only if these actresses change their image and act as good examples for the youth would the Catholic Church welcome them to the event, Sister Lydia Collado, chair of the archdiocese's organising team for this year's Bigkis Youth Festival, said.

"Image is important, but I have nothing against them (stars)," she added during the recent launching of the festival at SM Megamall.
