Sharjah: The mortal remains of an Indian expat woman, who allegedly ended her life after killing her baby in their apartment in Sharjah on July 8, were repatriated to the south Indian state of Kerala on Tuesday.

“Her body was flown on a flight from Dubai to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala which departed at 5.40pm,” a senior community leader with the Sharjah Indian Association, which has been supporting the family of the deceased, told Gulf News on Tuesday evening.

Several members of the community, including the family members of the deceased and her husband, and management committee members of the Sharjah Indian Association, were present at the embalming centre prior to sending off her body to the airport.

“There were emotional scenes at the embalming centre. Her mother was inconsolably crying and almost collapsed,” said the community leader.

Baby laid to rest in Dubai

The repatriation of the body of the 32-year-old happened just days after her 16-month-old daughter was laid to rest in Dubai. The authorities had released the body of the child to the father’s family, who decided to hold the child’s funeral in the UAE.

A senior representative of the New Sonapur Cemetery and Crematorium in Jebel Ali confirmed to Gulf News that the baby girl’s body was buried on Thursday in line with the beliefs of the family.

Meanwhile, the child’s father and his family members, including his parents and sister, are facing a case based on a complaint filed by the family of the deceased, who alleged that she had ended her life due to prolonged domestic abuse. A suicide note, allegedly written by the deceased, has also been released, adding weight to their claims.
