Abu Dhabi: The capital witnessed the arrival of one of the largest portable funfairs attracting a large number of people during the first day of Eid celebrations.

Organised by Freij Entertainment International and sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Municipality, the fair opened its doors to the public yesterday. It is located at the park on the Corniche, one of the capital city's most attractive residential areas.

The fair will run daily from 6pm to 2am for 14 days, displaying over 25 games, rides and live entertainment shows.

Some of the rides which are suitable for both adults and children include global wheel, water slides and swings, twisters, rowing boats, mini-coaster, bumper cars and an Emirati coffee jug with spinning coffee mugs.

Games include basketball, slot games, sling shots, darts. Live shows will include puppet shows, magician, face painting, dancing, circus and story tellers.

"More than 200 employees have worked on the funfair, millions of people are expected to come, out which over 70 per cent will visit during the first five days of the month. We will cut off the music by 11pm in order to respect the privacy of residents located nearby," Freij Al Zein, owner of Freij Entertainment told Gulf News.

Al Zein, who is originally an elephant trainer, came to the UAE in 1989 to offer mobile rides and entertainment units across the country.

"The public is bored of stationary circus shows in today's fast-paced environment. Based on such facts, we have designed mobile rides and entertainment units to create a virtual moving circus and fair," said Al Zein.

A Canadian-Egyptian mother, Huda Mansour, 38, was worried about where to take her children during Eid and the funfair came to a relief for her. "I have three kids. They have recently been getting too many days offs from school and driving my husband and me crazy. The extra adrenaline needs to be released. I am so relieved to hear about the funfair, it's timely and I will most definitely take them there on daily basis," she said.
