Irish champion Michael Kinane helped himself to another noteworthy prize when he partnered 10-1 chance Jardines Lookout to an impressive victory in the J.P. Morgan Private Bank Goodwood Cup yesterday.
Given a peach of a ride by the big-race specialist Jardines Lookout outstayed Give Notice (Johnny Murtagh) and Charley Bates (Freddy Norton) to win the Group Two contest.
Last year's winner Persian Punch set a blistering pace under Richard Hughes, but appeared tired early in the straight.
He was soon passed by the three-year-old Charley Bates and the Alan Jarvis-trained Jardines Lookout which appeared the more resilient of the two as he surged clear to win by a length-and-a-half.
Give Notice stayed on to take second, with Charley Bates three-and-a-half lengths further away in third.
Godolphin's 3/1 favourite Hatha Anna, failed to stay the tip and could manage no more than fifth for Frankie Dettori.
Hatha Anna, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, ran a promising race at Royal Ascot on his season debut last month when fourth in the Gold Cup over a gruelling two and a half miles.
Persian Punch finished a disappointing last.
Kinane went on to complete a group-race double when he piloted Dermot Weld's 11/2 shot Agnetha to claim King George 200th Anniversary Stakes.
The Irish raider beat the David Nicholls trained Rudi's Pet by a short head, following a strong effort by Kinane, while Jessica's Dream was third.
Wunders Dream, ridden by Michael Fenton, won the Group Three Molecomb Stakes for trainer James Given.
Mark Johnston notched up his third winner of Glorious Goodwood 2002 when Takes Tutu came with a late run to clinch the Stanley Racing Stakes.
Irish youngster Keith Dalgleish produced the horse in the dying stages of the race to get the better of My Raggedy Man (14/1) by a neck even as Kieren Fallon attempted to run away with the race on the Gay Kelleway-trained Grey Pearl.
Two jockeys, Jimmy Quinn and Philip Robinson, were thrown to the ground in a terrifying incident just 400 meters from the winning post.
Both jockeys were able to walk to the ambulance, but a stewards inquiry into the incident had to be adjourned to allow the pair to receive medical attention.
