Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa yesterday wrote to Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee, asking him to drop MDMK's M. Kannappan from his council of ministers for supporting the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Asked if Kannappan could be arrested by the Tamil Nadu government, Director General of Police Nailwal said that there were legal implications in this which would have to be studied.

Jayalalithaa's letter to Vajpayee follows the late night arrest of one more LTTE supporter by the police yesterday under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, for organising a meeting in support of the LTTE in Chennai.

P. Nedumaran was picked up from his Mylapore residence last night, remanded in custody and then whisked off to Cuddalore prison, in short order. Pleas that he should be kept in custody in Chennai, on health grounds, were rejected by the police.
