Dubai Workers in JAFZA South are going back to school!

Danube Welfare Centre, a subsidiary of Danube Group, is hosting classrooms for workers in JAFZA South from this evening to help boost their English language skills.

The workers have been divided into three groups, based on an entrance test. The curriculum includes a six-week English language course followed by personality development and elementary computer training.

Registration process

The registration process last month saw more than 1,200 applications. The three levels include basic — learning English from scratch, intermediate — for those who can understand the language but can’t speak or write, and advanced — to help improve their existing language skills.

There will be four sessions during the day to accommodate the workers’ shift timings. “To be able to live in a multicultural city, it is essential that we understand English. I am happy such a facility is available near our accommodation,” says Abhit Baahun, a security personnel with World Security.

JAFZA and Danube are likely to further expand the programme within the port area to provide basic education through free seminars, workshops and classes.

The programme conforms to the UAE’s initiative to mark 2017 as the ‘Year of Giving’.
