A ceremony organised by Israeli Singers' Association to honour Yafa Yarkoni, the top Israeli singer, was cancelled following the statement she made condemning the "Israeli military aggression on Palestinians."

According to the London-based Arabic daily Al Sharq Al Awsat, Yarkoni, 77, who dedicated plenty of her songs to the Israeli army, had strongly criticised the atrocities committed by the Israeli troops against Palestinian civilians in Jenin and other occupied territories.

"The scenes of the way Palestinians are being treated by the Israeli army reminds of the Jewish massacre by Nazis during World War II," the Israeli singer said in an interview with the Israel Army radio on Monday.
