HP unveils new ProLiant server
Having completed the full integration of Compaq, Hewlett-Packard (HP) is now expanding its product range. It has just come out with the new ProLiant server for enterprises.
For companies with constrained floor space in their data centres, the ProLiant DL560 server uses at least 50 per cent less rack space than most similarly configured enterprise servers, providing more server and storage deployment flexibility within a rack.
Able to operate a fully loaded system on less than 550 watts of power, the server, according to HP, offers the lowest power rating in the industry.
The company has also brought out a new family of DVD writers, with the promise of "aggressive" prices.
The new internal HP DVD writer, DVD300i, and external HP DVD writer, DVD300e, are expected to make the technology more accessible to consumers and small businesses.
HP has also introduced new 4x DVD+R write-once media, extending its line of affordable digital media designed for recording information.
"With these new DVD Writers, HP is making DVD recording simple and affordable. Now you can create impressive home movies to share with the family. You can also digitally record programmes from the TV," said Thomas Greve, desktops and workstations category manager, personal systems group, HP Middle East.
"Until recently, DVD recording was often considered the preserve of digital video enthusiasts and professionals, but since the massive uptake of digital camcorders and DVD players, interest in digital video has never been higher."
Estimated street prices are Dh1,295 for the HP (internal) DVD writer 300i and Dh1,595 for the HP (external) DVD writer 300e.
