Dubai: Car washes in Dubai have just gotten eco-friendly. Unlike conventional washes which consume around 100-120 litres of water per vehicle, a new service in town claims it can do the needful with less than four litres.
“That’s a saving of over 95 per cent,” said Serge Exshaw, founder and CEO of the Al Quoz 3-based Camel Car Wash.
Lasting effect
A Frenchman living in Dubai for four years, Exshaw said he introduced the concept to Dubai as he felt the need for a car wash solution that could save water and time. But what’s with the name ‘Camel Car Wash’? “Well, we’re in Dubai and we thought we would name our service after the camel out of respect for the animal and its glory.”
Exshaw said the car washes use steam machines specially imported from Korea. “Steam is a natural sanitising and deodorising agent, creating a lasting effect without any chemical odour. Vapour steam penetrates surfaces, destroying mould spores, germs, viruses, dust mites and bacteria. The whole process uses around four litres of water per car wash, making it the most eco-friendly car wash in Dubai.”
The products used are all water-based, whether it is the polishing compounds, waxes or tyre shines.
The service can be obtained either at Al Quoz 3 or at one’s own doorstep. “Our mobile car washing solution is a unique addition for Dubai. We have 10 Volkswagen Caddys equipped with equipment like steam generators, powerful vacuums (wet and dry), electrical air compressors and can bring the wash to where the customer is.”
And it’s not just cars that are serviced; any vehicle that requires cleaning can be covered. The list includes jet skis, sand buggies and motorbikes too.
Exshaw said a typical wash could take around 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the vehicle. “We charge Dh50-Dh80 for a car wash which covers the outside, inside and engine bay of the vehicle. Mobile services come for Dh100-Dh150. We also offer car detailing, polishing services, the cost of which ranges from Dh300 to Dh5,500.”
