Hit-and-run drunk driver jailed

A drunk driver hit another car near Al Nahda Roundabout and fled the scene. The victim gave a description of the car to a police patrol and the police were able to catch the hit-and-run driver at the traffic lights.

The man had no ID or car registration papers. The patrolman also noticed that the driver was drunk so he made him sit in the passenger seat. As the policeman was driving to Al Ghusais Police Station, the man opened the door, jumped out of the car and started running.

The policeman stopped the car and chased him. When he caught hold of him, the man started hitting him and kicking him. A second officer came and subdued the man.

The Prosecution charged the 29-year-old unemployed man for assaulting a police officer, drinking alcohol and for hit and run. The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the man to six months in prison and fined him Dh1,000.
