Abu Dhabi: Women have been warned against resorting to cosmetic surgery, unless deemed necessary, due to the rise in cases being filed regarding botched operations, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department said on Tuesday.
Men were also advised not to go for plastic surgery if not required. The official warning came following a case filed by a woman who claimed psychological, physical and financial damages inflicted on her resulting from an unsuccessful liposuction operation, the Judicial Department urged future patients to be sure of their doctors’ credentials, and their medical institutions’ reputability.
The plaintiff of an Arab nationality also claimed that her operation resulted in body disfigurement as only some areas of her abdomen were fully operated on causing several other deformities which have also led to her deteriorated psychological state.
The woman also complained of receiving negative reactions from her husband after the surgery.
According to her testimony, the patient was given tests upon arriving to a cosmetic facility in Abu Dhabi, and was consequently advised on the type of procedure suitable for her.
However, the plaintiff later discovered that the assistant who gave the medical opinion upon which the surgery was conducted, was allegedly an administrative worker and not a medical practitioner.
The plaintiff has since then undergone further surgeries to fix the reported damages and is requesting that she be compensated an amount sufficient enough for the difficulties she endured after her operation.
The case is now being referred to the court’s medical examiners to assess the damages, based on the plaintiff’s request.
