Al Ain: New studies on type II diabetes and the role of adult contacts in paediatric tuberculosis were among the 93 research papers that were presented on the second day of the Ninth Annual Research Conference of the UAE University (UAEU).

Eminent professors and academic of the UAEU chaired 16 sessions of the conference yesterday, while 72 studies were presented in 14 sessions on the first day.

The best studies, chosen from 219, will be awarded on the last day of the conference today, according to the organisers of the conference.

An interesting study was presented from the College of Education entitled "Keep 'em laughing" that discussed the effect of humour on learning a second language. The same college also presented a research on the teaching strategy for promoting independent learning.

David Dougherty, a patenting expert from the US, gave a keynote speech on how to protect and sell an invention emphasising on three issues - patentability, secrecy and timing.
