Noor Dubai to help restore eyesight for patients

Dubai: A Dubai-based charity organisation is planning to open a medical camp in Gaza to help repair eyesight problems.

The coastal Palestinian enclave was the scene of a bloody three-week onslaught by the Israelis, in which more than 1,200 died and thousands more injured.

The destruction has created a humanitarian crisis due to lack of basic necessities, including clean water, energy and food. The healthcare system is also overburdened.

Qadi Saeed Al Muroushid, director-general of Dubai Health Authority, told the press that getting help and supplies to the Gazans would not be easy.

"We do not know when to make a commitment for delivery of services, because we are still awaiting permission to enter Gaza," he said. "But when we get the green light we will act fast," he added.

Meanwhile, Noor Dubai has been trying to send medical supplies to Gaza. Dr Manal Taryam, director of the medical team for Noor Dubai, said the initiative will not give up in its quest to help the devastated people.

"We are trying to get in. It is possible to enter, not in a large group, but as individual doctors," she said.

"We will try to transfer some patients to Dubai, but some may not be able to come because of the security restrictions and the severity of their injuries," she added.

She said they expected to encounter many cases of corneal burns among victims, due to the Israeli army's use of white phosphorus during the incursion.

We all know whatever is happening in Gaza because of Israelis is so unfair. Why isn't anyone able to stop the murder innocent lives. I am very happy for your support to Gaza people but "prevention is better than cure". May God bless us all with a peaceful life.
