'Clean' campaign aims to reduce infections
Dubai: If you got messages on your mobile during the last few weeks urging you not to share your comb, razor or tweezers, it was courtesy of a month-long Dubai Municipality awareness campaign, ‘Dare to Share' — aimed at reducing the risk of infections through unhygienic conditions and equipment in ladies and gents salons.
"The Dare to Share campaign, will run up to June 16 from a need to make the general consumer and salon staff knowledgeable of the dangers of passing on diseases through re-use of un-sterilised equipment and unclean conditions in salons," said Maryam Hassan Al Balooshi, acting head of media section in the corporate marketing and relation department of Dubai Municipality.
The campaign was supported by Philips and Al Ghandi Electronics and was taken to the public through an extensive integrated media campaign using press and radio inserts.
"We associated with Dubai Municipality in this campaign as we believe that it is part of our corporate social responsibility to help educate and instil awareness among the residents of Dubai on the need to adopt safe practices for good grooming and ways to ensure implementation of these best practices," said Vincenzo Ventricelli, marketing director, Philips consumer lifestyle.
The public was able to get more in-depth information through promotions in Union Cooperative Society stores across Dubai and selected shopping malls on weekends. The in-mall promotions conducted in Lamcy Plaza, Reef Mall, Al Khaleej Centre and Burjuman Centre generated nearly 8,000 live contacts who received flyers and important information on how to avoid the risks of infection from unclean saloons and also how to identify clean salons.
