Dubai: Patients — both Emirati and expatriate — who are unable to afford medical treatment can seek financial assistance through the Mosaadah programme, an initiative by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

The announcement was made on Tuesday following an agreement between the DHA and Index Medical Centre in support of the programme.

Last year, the programme reached out to 317 patients suffering from burns, cardiovascular disease and cancers.

Based on the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Index Medical Centre, which is located in Dubai Healthcare City, will provide medical assistance to patients with financial constraints.

The Centre provides a broad spectrum of treatment options across fields such as cardiology, general surgery, paediatrics, oncology, and gynaecology, among others.

Engineer Eisa Al Maidour, Director-General of the DHA, highlighted that such initiatives help alleviate the suffering of the needy and ensure access to high-quality care.

Dr Abdul Salam Al Madani, Chairman of Index Holding, added Index group is keen to provide medical assistance to patients who have financial constraints and need treatment.

Salem Bin Lahej, head of the Mosaadah programme, said in a press statement, “In 2012, the programme reached out to 317 patients. We spent Dh450,000 on their treatment and Dh100,000 on equipment, including beds, wheelchairs, oxygen machine, etc. We are very thankful to the various sponsors who helped us in our endeavour. We believe that this MoU will provide a further boost to this initiative.”
