Abu Dhabi: An elderly Emirati patient has had her vision restored after eight years of progressive vision loss that resulted in near-blindness.

Bakheeta Al Mansouri, an 80-year-old Emirati, underwent a series of successful procedures, including the removal of dense cataracts, at the Moorfields Eye Hospital in the capital.

After being bound to a wheelchair for almost two years due to vision loss, Al Mansouri is now able to get around on her own, the hospital said in a statement on Wednesday.
