Three-year programme is part of a GCC-wide initiative that will be implemented by the Gulf Health Awareness and Media Committee
Abu Dhabi: The UAE is currently a leader in health awareness in the GCC, but there is still much that can be done to improve people's awareness about health issues and their lifestyles, a leading health official said in the capital yesterday.
The Ministry of Health is therefore working on a programme that will inform people about the most common non-communicable diseases in the region and ways of adopting healthier lifestyles, Dr Nasser Al Budoor, assistant undersecretary of international relations and health affairs at the Ministry of Health, told Gulf News.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a GCC Health Awareness and Media Committee meeting held Sunday.
"This three-year programme is part of a GCC-wide initiative that will be implemented by the Gulf Health Awareness and Media Committee," Dr Al Budoor said.
The official said awareness campaigns would focus on conditions that currently affect the greatest proportion of the population in the GCC, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and breast cancer.
"We will ensure that popular sources of information like social networks, smart phones and television shows form a key part of the campaign," Dr. Al Budoor added.
