Dr Azaan Bin Braik, one of the leading cardiologists in the country, tested both Kevin and Jaye’s heart rates with an Electrocardiograph (ECG).

“Kevin’s stress ECG is normal, but for his age he could have done better. That indicates to me that he is leading an unhealthy lifestyle. He doesn’t require any medical treatment at this stage; it can be controlled by diet and exercise.”

“One of the more important things we are looking at today is the waist circumference, for men it should be under 100centimetres [39.37inches],” Dr Bin Braik said.

He explained that the location of the fat on the body can determine the risk of getting cardiovascular disease, “If all the fat is on the belly and chest of a person then he or she is at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease than someone whose fat accumulates on the posterior.”

“Heart disease is very expensive; you take medicine, which is expensive, for life. Diabetes you take medicine, which is expensive, for life. Not many people can afford it; not many governments can afford it, even rich governments can’t afford it indefinitely.”

“Cardiovascular disease can be avoided or delayed if we are to take a common sense attitude,” he said.

“Half an hour of exercise a day, the best and cheapest is a brisk walk. And maybe once or twice a week be a vegetarian.”

When asked about Jaye’s diet Dr Bin Braik said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea at all. You have to have a balanced diet, just need to eat sensibly, it’s common sense.”

However, upon reviewing Jaye’s blood test results Dr Bin Braik’s opinion changed completely, “Your blood chemistry is excellent, I can’t remember when I saw results like these in an ordinary patient. I wish that ten per cent of my patients had this kind of results; I’d be out of business.”

Jaye also passed the stress ECG with flying colours.

“You’ve got a very good lifestyle; your weight is perfect, you exercise, you don’t smoke, you don’t drink, you eat well and you’ve got a perfect body surface area,” Dr Bin Braik said.

“If I were to put my money on it, I’d say that you would never get cardiovascular disease, meaning that you are not going to get any blockages in your heart, or in your brain or kidney or eyes. So whatever you are doing carry on,” he said.

Dr Bin Braik added that it would be very interesting to keep an eye on Jaye’s health for the next few decades and see what happens. “I like certain parts of his lifestyle, I can tell you that all the parameters of cholesterol, sugar and so on are excellent, but the blood cell and B12 needs to be looked into. We don’t know what are the long term effects of this.”

TELL-ALL TESTS

Jaye and Kevin underwent a series of blood tests. Here are some of the results:
