Awareness drive on epilepsy in Al Ain

Parents’ reassurance is vital for children suffering from epilepsy

Last updated:

Al Ain: Tawam Hospital will launch a drive to educate parents and children on epilepsy.

The two-day event is part of hospital’s Purple Day activities and will be organised at Al Ain Mall on April 5 and 6.

Purple Day is an international effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide. It will be a great opportunity for the public to interact and learn about the ailment in children, said an official of the hospital.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder caused by recurrent disturbance of electrical activity in the brain. There is no cure for it, but the seizures can be controlled with anti-epileptic medication.

Dr Mohammad Al Malek, consultant of paediatric neurology, said that parents’ reassurance and education are important in particular when a seizure occurs to their children. Tawam Hospital organises a support group meeting every three months for parents, he added.
