Dubai: A 182-bed private, multi-speciality hospital will open its doors in Al Barsha in Dubai on Sunday (September 23), catering to, what it claims, a growing demand for healthcare in south Dubai.

Run by Mediclinic Middle East, the all-new Mediclinic Parkview Hospital is located at the intersection of Umm Suqeim Road and Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road. The healthcare group has six other hospitals in the UAE, including the Mediclinic Welcare Hospital and Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai.

Speaking to Gulf News ahead of the launch, hospital director Barry Bedford said, “We were getting a lot of patients from south Dubai at our existing hospitals elsewhere. Given the growing demand, it made sense to open a new hospital to cater to these neighbourhoods.”

He said the hospital offers 35 comprehensive, consultant-led specialities with 126 western-board qualified doctors and 220 nurses. It has 182 rooms, besides six VIP rooms and one royal suite.

“We have a state-of-the-art obstetrics and gynaecology unit, a dedicated C section theatre, a level III NICU and comprehensive maternity services. We give priority outpatient appointments for children and have a 24-hour paediatric speciality in the emergency department. Our dedicated breast unit has an Arabic-speaking consultant breast surgeon and interventional radiologist. In fact, 50 per cent of all our consultant doctors are Arabic-speaking,” added Bedford.

The hospital director said Mediclinic Parkview’s “state-of-the-art” facilities include a highly advanced cathlab, a 256-slide CT scanner, a 3 tesla MRI scanner, an integrated digitised operation theatre.

He said the hospital has launched a 24/7 contact centre for the benefit of patients. “They can call 8001999 any time of the day or night for appointments.”

Bedford said it took two-and-a-half years to build the hospital. “It is the largest greenfield construction project by value ever undertaken by Mediclinic International. We are happy we could complete it six months before schedule and be able to address the healthcare needs of people in south Dubai.”
